Court to hear challenge to CCSD Education Foundation board vote

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — Charleston County School District officials are scheduled to return to court Wednesday for a hearing stemming from a lawsuit challenging actions taken by the Board of Trustees during a February meeting.

The lawsuit was filed by Dr. Brian McClure and names Charleston County School District, several members of the Board of Trustees, and the Charleston County School District Education Foundation as defendants.

According to the amended complaint, the dispute centers on the formation of the district’s Education Foundation and the selection of its initial board of directors. Under the foundation’s bylaws, the initial voting members are appointed by a majority vote of the Board of Trustees, with one representative from each of the county’s nine school board districts…
