A Columbia man is behind bars following a high-speed pursuit that spanned two counties and ended with a K9 deployment and apprehension.
At approximately 2:35 p.m. on March 31, a Kershaw County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on White Pond Road in Elgin. The driver, later identified as Isaac Timothy Carter, 36, refused to stop, leading deputies on a pursuit onto I-20 West toward Richland County.
During the evasion, Carter reached speeds of 100 mph and struck the side of a passing motorist’s vehicle. The pursuit continued until Carter exited the interstate at Clemson Road, eventually driving into a residential neighborhood. After reaching a dead-end road, Carter abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) K9 Sam was deployed and quickly closed the gap, apprehending the suspect within seconds. Carter was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of a K9 bite before being booked into custody…
