Machinery damaged in fire at Walker manufacturing facility

WALKER, Mich. — Damage was limited to just one piece of machinery at a Walker manufacturing plant after a fire broke out overnight.

Walker Fire Chief Russell Shoultz said fire crews arrived at a 250,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in the 3200 block of Fruit Ridge Avenue NW around 12:30 a.m. Crews found the facility full of smoke.

Workers had been in the building when a large piece of machinery caught fire, Shoultz said. They attempted to use fire extinguishers, but that made the flames worse. They called 911 and crews arrived within six minutes…
