MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – The opening of Mobile’s new downtown airport has been delayed.
While construction is nearly finished, Airport Authority leaders say outside factors are causing the delay. The airport was supposed to open this fall, but former Mobile Mayor and Airport Authority Chairman Sandy Stimpson says it could be early 2027 before the first flight takes off from Brookley Aeroplex.
Stimpson says while construction of the airport itself is still set to wrap up by late September, the once-scheduled fall opening for flights to move from west Mobile to the downtown terminal is now expected for the first quarter of 2027.
