MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A Prichard police officer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he stole guns, including one from the scene of a vehicle accident that he investigated.
Mobile police said they found stolen guns while responding to a shooting at the home of defendant Ryan Spencer Phillips on Wesley Avenue in February. Police said Phillips, 34, fatally shot his roommate, San Juania Coronado, but didn’t arrest him. Instead, they turned the case over to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office to present to a grand jury.
Prosecutors allege that Phillips took a Taurus 9 mm pistol while on duty at the scene of a car crash on Frontage Road in January. Investigators say that same gun was one of four stolen firearms found at his home…
