PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) – The $10 million Reimagine Palafox project kicked off after the new year. Downtown visitors have spent the last couple of months seeing and hearing the progress.
“Well, it’s really loud that’s for sure so I’m looking forward to it being over but I’m looking forward to seeing what it looks like when it’s done,” said Alicia Parkerson.
Construction progress
The city says the project is at the halfway mark and things have started to come to life on the outer parts of Palafox Street. Officials say most of the irrigation and stormwater upgrades have been finished. Pavers are also going in and landscaping is underway.
“So now we’re moving into that final hardscaping phase and we’re starting to see the asphalt trucks show up,” said Adrianne Walker, strategic initiatives project officer.
Walkability improvements
The project is also making Palafox more walkable and accessible for people of all abilities with wider sidewalks. While the street will be open to traffic, the lanes have been narrowed, and block crossings have been added to help slow traffic…
