Sheriff seeks new health care provider for jail; county funds more local events

Lucas County’s jail is looking for a new health-care provider, with officials saying the current company is “falling a little short” of expectations.

The county approved a contract with VitalCore in July, 2024, to provide medical services at the jail. After an initial 16-month period at $4.7 million, the county renewed the contract for 2026 for an annual cost of about $3.6 million.
