Dr. Joseph Ricotta Surpasses 500 TCAR Procedures, Reinforcing Leadership in Stroke Prevention

April 1, 2026- Dr. Joseph Ricotta, National Medical Director of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy for Tenet Healthcare, Professor of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program Director at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Medicine, and founder of the Prime Vascular Institute, has reached a significant milestone, completing more than 500 Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) procedures.

A pioneer in the field, Dr. Ricotta performed the first TCAR procedure in South Florida in 2018 and continues to advance the technique as a safer, minimally invasive option for treating carotid artery disease, a leading cause of stroke. TCAR works by reversing blood flow during the procedure to prevent plaque from traveling to the brain, offering patients a highly effective alternative to traditional surgery.
