Bribery trial for Banks, Lumumba and Owens to remain in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The federal trial for Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens, former Jackson Mayor Chokwe A. Lumumba and former City Councilman Aaron Banks will remain in Jackson.

During a hearing on April 1, 2026, the judge said the trial will not move to Gulfport. U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan said he will consider selecting the jury pool from across the state, and the jurors would commute to the capital city.

Jordan said the prosecution will need to submit all audio and video transcripts for discovery by May 4, 2026, and everything they plan to use during the trial would have to be submitted by May 15, 2026. The defense was ordered to submit their audio and video transcripts by May 22, 2026, and everything they plan to use during the trial by June 5, 2026…
