Fentanyl And Firearms: Federal Charges Follow Near-Fatal Infant Overdose In Pinellas Park

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. – A multi-agency narcotics investigation culminated in federal charges this week against a Pinellas Park man after his infant child nearly died from a fentanyl overdose. On March 31, 2026, Rayshawn Smith, 31, was indicted on several counts including distribution of controlled substances resulting in great bodily injury.

The case began in 2025 when Pinellas Park detectives launched an investigation into Smith for various drug-related crimes. The stakes of the investigation shifted dramatically in November 2025 when Smith’s infant child ingested fentanyl.
