Group cites ‘burdens,’ pollution in opposing Fort Bliss data center

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A community activist group is opposing the planned data center at Fort Bliss, saying they already live near a power plant and other polluters.

They also worry about what the data center would do to their quality of life and the cost and availability of water and power.

“Our schools are here. Our children are here. Our elderly people live here,” said Rafael Carrasco, president of EACH (Empowering Area Communities and Households). “Yet Fort Bliss will give us — the civilians — the full burden of different health issues that are going to be raised, the water cost, the burden of electricity that will be passed on to civilians.”

Carrasco said that a power plant was built near where he lives at Montana and Zaragoza about a decade ago. He also said he lives by tanks that contain different fuel products…
