EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Local fire resources are coming together to continue battling the Sago Fire.
As of Wednesday, April 1, the fire is reported to be at 53% containment. Crews began repair work with support from Mescalaro Tribal heavy equipment, according to a news release from Public Information Officer Jennifer Olson.
Tribal leader, Horace Comanche, sang an honor song for the firefighters working on the Sago Fire during a morning briefing on Tuesday, March 31. He is a member of the Mescalero Apache and Chiricahua Apache tribes.
Comanche said the song is meant to honor those who have come before and those still doing work today. Sharing music is one of their ways to make sure their traditions live on.
