Man charged in bomb hoax that caused plane’s emergency landing in Detroit

DETROIT, MI – The man accused of threatening to blow up a plane, prompting an American Airlines flight to make an emergency landing in Detroit, has been charged in federal court in Detroit.

The flight with more than 150 passengers and crew members was en route to Chicago from New York when the passenger “loudly” threatened to blow up the plane, according to the Detroit Free Press. The plane was quickly diverted to Detroit and touched down at the Detroit Metro Airport in Romulus shortly after. Law enforcement officers searched the plane, luggage and other passengers for any bombs or explosive devices but did not find anything. The flight was canceled, forcing all the passengers to find alternate travel.

The FBI arrested the man March 29 and took him to a hospital for evaluation, according to CBS Detroit…
