JSO and non-profit catch drivers failing to yield to pedestrians

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and a pedestrian safety group are teaming up on a new initiative designed to help prevent traffic deaths in the city.

It’s called Operation Best Foot Forward, led by Bike/Walk Central Florida. It’s a program new to Jacksonville but has been ongoing elsewhere since 2012. The goal is high-visibility traffic enforcement. JSO officers and Bert and Lillian Road in Arlington, where that sting operation took place.

Our cameras observed a plainclothes officer crossing a sidewalk with no pedestrian traffic light to see if drivers would yield. We caught multiple drivers failing to yield, and they were subsequently pulled over…
