Crime blotter: Larceny, damage to property and trespassing

Larceny, damage to property and trespassing were all reported multiple times this past week.

MSU disclosed the incidents under the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act, which requires universities to list reported criminal offenses publicly. The State News filed Freedom of Information Act requests for police reports of notable incidents, and under state law, MSU has three weeks to respond.

Mandatory reports can come from university employees, such as staff, faculty and administrators, and do not necessarily involve police unless the victim chooses to file a formal complaint with law enforcement. MSU’s Department of Police and Public Safety Communications Manager Nadia Vizueta clarified that “Those reports do not automatically generate a police report. An incident appears only when it is reported directly to the university police department and determined to be a Clery-reportable crime that occurred within our Clery geography.”…
