Mayor Cheriogotis expands home repair program to serve more Mobilians

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis is expanding the City of Mobile’s 2026 Critical Repair Grant Program, tripling the number of low-to-moderate-income Mobilians who will be able to receive financial support for roof repairs this year.

Administered by the City’s Neighborhood Development Department, the Critical Repair Grant Program helps qualifying homeowners address serious issues that threaten the safety and livability of their homes. In 2026, the program will focus on roof replacements — one of the most urgent and costly repairs many residents face.

Traditionally funded through federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the program will see a major expansion this year.
