No charges to come in shooting death of MTSU professor who led ‘double life’ and was found with toxic levels of meth, investigators say

DEKALB CO., Tenn. (WSMV) – The details of the investigation into the December shooting death of Middle Tennessee State University professor Ashleigh McKinzie have been revealed, with authorities saying no charges will be filed against the man who shot her.

Bryant C. Dunaway, district attorney general for the 13th Judicial District, said in a press release on Thursday that Todd Stanton, the man accused of shooting the 41-year-old professor multiple times last December, will not be charged.

Investigators found that shortly before 5 a.m. on Dec. 4, deputies with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call involving gunshots on Smithville Highway. There, they found McKinzie lying in the road with multiple wounds. Next to her body, they found a loaded and cocked handgun, plastic skull mask and backpack containing a Steal Cam vision monocular, multiple flashlights, a surveillance camera, portable power station and an MTSU lanyard…
