A Wednesday evening in Wake Forest turned tense when gunfire rang out in the New Hope Village neighborhood after a local police officer tried to approach a person, sending residents scrambling and drawing a heavy law enforcement response. The call came in around 7 p.m., and officers, including K-9 teams, spread through the complex as people ran from the scene. Police later said a firearm was found in the area and that, at the time of the initial reporting, no one was in custody.
