On a 10-acre site, in Grand Terrace, the Condor Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is helping redefine how energy is delivered when it’s needed most. With a capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh, the facility can power approximately 150,000 homes for up to four hours during peak demand—strengthening grid reliability and supporting the transition to cleaner energy.
At the heart of the project are 220 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, supported by space for 660 CMA Augmented BESS units designed to sustain performance over a 35-year lifespan. But beyond its technical scale, what truly sets Condor apart is its unwavering commitment to safety.
Over the course of 280,000 work hours, the project team achieved an extraordinary milestone: zero recordable or lost-time incidents. This success was driven by a deeply embedded safety culture. A craft empowerment program ensured that every worker had a voice, while a thorough site orientation process prepared everyone who stepped onto the project for safe, high-quality work…
