Victims named in crash that sent Jeep into San Diego river

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Two people who died after the Jeep they were in was hit by a suspected DUI driver on a San Diego highway and was pushed into the river below have been identified as Chula Vista residents.

The San Diego Coroner’s Office identified Ignacio Pedroza, 60, and Monica Silvia Pedroza, 53, both from Chula Vista, as the two people who died. On March 29, their Jeep was hit from behind and flew off a bridge on SR-54 into the Sweetwater River in National City.

The coroner’s office said Monica was a passenger in the SUV and was extricated from the submerged jeep before she died. Ignacio was found after they pulled the submerged vehicle from the water.
