Broken Arrow voters weigh $415 million plan as sales tax hike sparks debate

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – Voters in Broken Arrow will decide on eight propositions totaling more than $400 million for projects across the city. Seven would not raise taxes and would fund streets, public safety, infrastructure, and a new library.

Sales tax increase tied to sports upgrades

One proposition would raise the sales tax by a half penny for five years, which equates to one nickel for every $10 spent. The funding would go toward upgrades to sports facilities, including the Indian Springs Sports Complex, with city leaders saying improvements could attract tournaments and boost local spending.

Residents, city leaders split on tax proposal

Some residents, including Brent Watson, oppose the increase, saying the project isn’t essential and questioning the long-term impact.

“I’m not against doing that—that’s a great thing. But we can’t just spend money on unnecessary things and raise our taxes continually. To me, this is an unnecessary expenditure.”…
