(COLORADO SPRINGS) — To help children in foster care attend camp, a local organization is hoping the community will donate to the cause. On Wednesday, April 1, Kids Crossing, a child placement agency, hosted an event to stuff backpacks for its upcoming camp in mid-April.
“Many youth in Foster care miss out on experiences like overnight camps due to their unique emotional and behavioral needs,” according to the Kids Crossing website. “In fact, fewer than 3% of the youth in our homes have ever attended an overnight camp.”
To change this, according to the organization, Kids Crossing partnered with the YMCA’s Camp Shady Brook to create its own overnight camp for kids, ages 9 through 17. The camp was created three years ago and is called Camp Faubion. It takes place from April 17-19, 2026, and includes therapeutic support from the Kids Crossing counseling team.
“It costs approximately $300 to send a foster youth to camp,” a press release read. “Kids Crossing team members will be stuffing camp backpacks to include flashlights, beanies, gloves, sunscreen, rain ponchos, water bottles, deodorant, sleeping bags, t-shirts, and more for each camper.”…
