New Hawaii legislation targets outlawing license plate covers

HONOLULU (KHON2) β€” Lawmakers are bringing up a new bill that would ban a certain car accessory in hopes of curbing crime.

The bill would allow state and county parking officers to issue citations for any obstructed plate and fail any vehicle inspection with a shield or cover.

β€œPeople are evading law enforcement, or even in the instances of hit and runs, people are not able to actually document what car hit them, what the license plate was. Should somebody get a safety check, it is also inherent that they follow the law to not obstruct a license plate,” House Transportation Chair State Representative Darius Kila said…
