Update on North Shore recovery plans, distribution sites and resources

WAIALUA, Hawaii (Island News) — Nearly two weeks after the second Kona Low storm flooded parts of Oahu’s North Shore, city leaders and community organizers said recovery efforts are entering a new phase — with changes aimed at improving access to resources for impacted residents.

At Waialua District Park, now a central hub for relief, officials announced the community-led Sugar Mill distribution site will relocate from the distilling company to the park’s parking lot. The move is aimed at making services more accessible as community needs evolve.

The hub will begin operating at its new location starting Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., pause during school hours and reopen from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Volunteers are still needed to help distribute water, cleaning supplies and other essential items.

Officials said the distilling company will be closed Thursday as a distribution site during the transition but will remain open for regular business…
