Driver allegedly assaulted teen after mother passed garbage truck in Whitmore Lake

WHITMORE LAKE, MI — A recent video of a garbage truck driver allegedly punching a teenager multiple times through the window of a car left the teen with a concussion, sprained ankle and possible rib fracture, according to court documents.

A lawsuit accuses the former driver of Duncan Disposal — a garbage collection service in Green Oak Township — of assault and battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It asks for $75,000 in compensation.

On March 5, Doreen Whelan was driving her 17-year-old and 4-year-old sons to Whitmore Lake High School when she encountered a Duncan garbage truck. Whelan tried to pass the truck without realizing the driver was planning to reverse the vehicle back into a road, according to the suit.
