Inmate dies at Western Tidewater Regional Jail after medical emergency

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A 45-year-old inmate died early Wednesday morning following a medical emergency at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

According to authorities, a jail officer requested medical and security assistance after observing a medical emergency in one of the facility’s security housing units around 4:30 a.m. When staff arrived, they initiated CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Emergency medical services responded and took over medical care. Despite multiple resuscitation efforts, the 45-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene by Suffolk EMS, according to a release…
