‘The young people in our city, they need us’: Milwaukee holds youth job fair after teen takeovers

MILWAUKEE — Connecting Milwaukee kids and teenagers to helpful organizations, summer programs, apprenticeships and jobs was the goal of a resource and employment fair at the Baird Center Thursday.

It came after two “teen takeovers” turned violent earlier this week. One happened at Bayshore Mall Sunday. The other, at Moody Park Monday night. Fights broke out and shots were fired. At least 14 young people were arrested, ranging in age from 12 to 19.

Teen takeovers refer to when teenagers pick a time and location, spread the word quickly through social media, and then show up in very large groups that overtake the area. These gatherings have been surging across the country and can often turn chaotic…
