ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Volunteers removed trail signs at Sandia Crest as the U.S. Forest Service prepares to close the recreation area for nearly two years through fall 2027.
On Wednesday, volunteers went up to the mountain to take down trail signs and protect them from damage during construction and maintenance work.
“Friends of Sandia Mountains is our biggest volunteer group here in the Forest Service,” a forest worker told KOB 4. “We really rely heavily on our volunteers group to help us with all our projects.”…
