Spokane man pleads not guilty following knife incident in Zips parking lot

SPOKANE, Wash. – Joseph Sutton, the man arrested on March 26 for reportedly threatening people with a knife in a Zips parking lot, attended his arraignment hearing on Thursday afternoon in Spokane County Court.

Sutton pleaded not guilty to all charges, including one count of second-degree assault and one count of obstruction.

His bond was initially set at $25,000, and the defense requested a “substantial reduction in bond” due to the fact that Sutton’s father is unemployed and unable to post a 25,000 bond. The defense also argued that most of Sutton’s criminal history is “non-assaultive” and that he lacks any failures to appear at the felony level…
