Kern High School District could declare shortage of qualified teachers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Kern High School District doesn’t have enough qualified teachers and is looking to start hiring non-certificated teachers in certain areas, according to the Board of Trustees meeting agenda.

The Board is set to consider adopting a document titled “Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators” during its Tuesday meeting at 7 p.m. at 5801 Sundale Ave, according to the agenda.

“This document declares that there is an insufficient number of certificated individuals who meet the district’s specified employment criteria and, therefore, it is necessary to employ non-certificated persons on emergency single subject permits in shortage areas,” the agenda read.

According to the proposed declaration, KHSD is planning to request issuing limited assignment permits for 10 single-subject teachers and 15 special education teachers…
