Why Lake Erie anglers are keeping their boats docked this week: NE Ohio fishing report

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The April showers that bring May flowers have arrived with a vengeance, with April Fool’s Day thunderstorms shutting the good area fishing for at least a few days. Lake Erie was roiled up on Thursday. Its tributaries were overflowing their banks, and the weekend fishing forecast for walleye and steelhead trout that had been so positive in recent days was drowning in the deluge.

It’s going to take a few days for the wet weather and muddy waters to stabilize and begin to clear. High waters had even caused the Vermilion River launch ramp to temporarily shut down, though few boaters ventured out on Lake Erie along the Ohio shoreline.

Expect the near-shore waters of Lake Erie to be muddy for the next few days as the off-color water moves from west to east on the big lake. As waters begin to clear boaters will have to be cautious of “dead heads,” the floating logs and timber spewing from the swollen rivers…
