A woman whose body was found along Highway 74 near Palm Desert in 1980 has been identified more than four decades later through genetic genealogy, the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office said.
The woman was identified as Victoria Jean Hargrove, and was 29 when she was reported missing Jan. 28, 1980, from her home in Opelika, Alabama.
The case began Feb. 18, 1980, when motorists discovered her body about 35 feet down a ravine off Highway 74, south of Cahuilla, in an unincorporated area near Palm Desert, in what the district attorney’s office have described as a homicide case…
