Vehicle break-ins on the rise

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Warmer weather means more people out and about, but it also creates more opportunities for thieves. Police say many of these break-ins are preventable, and they’re urging drivers to take a few simple precautions.

Sergeant Rodney Miller with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says thefts from vehicles continue to be a common issue across the county.

“Yes, thefts from vehicles is always a problem we have in Vanderburgh County — it seems to be mostly unlocked vehicles. People are leaving items in their vehicles unsecured. Vehicle thefts with firearms are very common, they’re finding the vehicles unlocked,” Miller said…
