NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — When looking at data through the end of March, Metro police told News 2 reports of rape in Davidson County are up 17%, with 153 cases reported. That’s up 21 cases from this time last year.
“When we really stop and think about what the impact of rape does to people, to think that these numbers have risen like that in certain communities, is definitely alarming,” said Valerie Craig, Co-Founder of Tennessee Voices for Victims. “A lot of times people don’t even come forward when they have been raped, and so these numbers could actually even be a little bit low for what those areas are actually experiencing.”
The Metro Nashville Police Department’s most recent crime rate report shows 11 cases in the West Precinct so far this year compared to zero at this time last year. The South Precinct also saw a spike with 28 rape cases compared to 12 at this time last year…
