A Summerfield woman was arrested on a warrant Wednesday after deputies investigating a sexual battery case discovered a handgun in her purse.
On Feb. 25, deputies responded to an alleged sexual battery at a residence on Southeast 42nd Terrace in Summerfield, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. It was during the investigation that they interviewed 64-year-old Daphne Sharon Barkwell, who stated she had a handgun in her purse.
A look inside the purse determined the gun was an unloaded Davis Industries Model D-25 Derringer. However, Barkwell had been convicted of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on March 16, 2023, meaning she was not allowed to have guns, the report said…
