USS New Jersey returns to Navy after maintenance at Newport News Shipbuilding

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The USS New Jersey (SSN 796) has been redelivered to the U.S. Navy after completing its post-shakedown availability at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding, the company announced Friday.

The Virginia-class fast attack submarine underwent months of post-delivery work, a standard maintenance period that includes system upgrades, testing, and adjustments made after a vessel’s initial time at sea. According to HII, the shipyard completed combat systems and electronics improvements, along with general maintenance.

“Maintaining our nation’s undersea maritime supremacy is strengthened by the redelivery of USS New Jersey,” said Jason Ward, NNS vice president of new construction submarine programs. “Our combined NNS-Navy team is focused on the mission and understands the importance of getting this submarine to the fleet.”…
