Iowa State Fire Marshal ends burn ban in Mills County

GLENWOOD, Iowa (WOWT) – The burn ban put in place for Mills County two weeks ago has been lifted as the area sees cooler weather with lower temperatures and some preciptiation in the forecasts.

Mills County Emergency Management put a request in with Dan Wood, the Iowa State Fire Marshal, to end a ban on open burning in the county. The fire marshal agreed, and the ban put in place March 19 was lifted at noon Thursday.

Open burning had been prohibited in the county while conditions were prime for potential danger to life or property. At that time, high temperatures were in the forecast, and limited moisture meant there was much dried vegetation around to fuel any fires that might ignite — from something as small as a tossed cigarette or a sparks from a yard fire — while drought conditions were present…
