Teacher who groped student in high school classroom gets jail time

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A former psychology teacher who had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student in a Douglas County High School classroom was sentenced Friday.

According to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, 57-year-old James Thomure pleaded guilty to one count each of sexual exploitation of a child and child abuse. He was sentenced to 300 days in jail.

The release said on May 27, 2024, Thomure had been proctoring an exam for three students. After two of them finished their exams and left the room, Thomure remained alone with the victim. After a brief conversation, Thomure groped the student and tried to kiss her, telling her how beautiful she was and how he would like to “do things to her,” according to the release. The release said he also suggested they meet at a park over the summer for sexual activity before driving her to her car.

The girl reported the incident to a trusted adult who contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the release said, and detectives were able to corroborated her account using classroom surveillance video…
