Bank fraud convict now facing forgery, ID theft charges

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls woman who was sentenced in 2019 to 41 months in federal prison for bank fraud is now accused of forgery and identity theft in South Dakota court.

46-year-old Brandy Scholl of Sioux Falls faces 98 counts of criminal activity in the current case. The 98 counts include including 37 counts of forgery, 37 counts of possession of a forged instrument with intent to defraud and 24 counts of identity theft.

Court papers show how Scholl has come to face the charges. The documents say that in early March, three suspects from Sioux Falls went to Sioux City’s Hard Rock Casino and tried to cash fraudulent checks. Per court papers, the investigation uncovered that someone else had rented a car for the suspects.

Court documents say Scholl was living in Sioux Falls with the person who rented the suspects’ car. According to the documents, investigators got a search warrant for this location and seized various items: mail, a printer and laptops as well as fraudulent business and personal checks which totaled more than $450,000…
