Betty Tanner, 98, a former longtime resident of Missouri, North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota, died March 26, 2026, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Betty was born at home on May 17, 1927, in Ridgeway, Missouri, to Ina Vay and Jesse Thomas Whisler. She was the middle child of five siblings (three brothers and one sister). She married Edwin Tanner on Dec. 1, 1946, and remained his wife for more than 56 years until his death in 2003. She is now reunited with her husband.
Betty worked as a bank teller, a legal secretary, and a longtime volunteer for hospice support staff. She was an active member of her church and sang alto in various church choirs from age 13 until age 90…
