Firefighters battle two-alarm blaze at Eugene apartment building

EUGENE, Ore. – Firefighters battled a two-alarm apartment fire near downtown Eugene on Friday afternoon, according to Eugene Springfield Fire officials.

ESF authorities said that, around 2:30 p.m. on April 3, people in the area reported smoke and fire coming from a first-floor apartment in a two-story building in the 1300 block of Lawrence Street. Multiple people called 911, and the first crews to arrive found heavy fire and smoke already spreading to a second-floor apartment.

Firefighters called for a second alarm because of access issues and the intense fire. The extra resources helped crews search for potential victims and fight the fire on multiple floors. Truck 1 arrived first and entered the burning apartment to search and slow the fire’s spread using water extinguishers. These 2.5-gallon extinguishers are often used by crews on trucks without pumps and hoses to knock down flames and protect firefighters while they search ahead of hose lines…
