Man sentenced to 21 years in fatal shooting of son over electricity bill

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A man convicted of shooting his adult son, Angel Preciado, 23, to death over an electric bill last November, was sentenced on Thursday to 21 years in prison, according to the Kern County court website.

Court records indicate that Jose Guadalupe Preciado, father of Angel, was convicted of voluntary manslaughter on March 4, 2026, as part of a plea deal. He pleaded no contest.

Jose admitted in court that he used a firearm for an attempted felony and circumstances in aggravation of particular vulnerability, records show.
