DA to retry 2018 Brockton murder after SJC discovers judicial error

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s office said it intends to retry Renardo C. Williams Jr., pushing back against a Supreme Judicial Court ruling Monday that vacated Williams’ murder conviction in the 2018 fatal Brockton shooting of Bethgy Cator, 26, of Avon.

“This is not simply an esoteric exercise,” a spokesperson for the DA’s office told The Enterprise Friday, quoting a prosecutorial motion asking the SJC to reconsider. “The implications of the Court’s decision for the victims and their families are nothing short of devastating and made all the more challenging given that the reasons are untethered from any pragmatism.”
