Geno Auriemma Makes Dawn Staley Admission After UConn’s Loss to South Carolina

The No. 1-seeded UConn women’s basketball team was as dominant as its fans could’ve asked for entering Friday’s Final Four matchup with No. 1 South Carolina, but it only takes one game for the narrative to change in March Madness. The Huskies lost 62-48 after winning their previous 54 contests, tied for the fourth-longest streak in NCAA Division I history.

One of those wins was their 82-59 victory over the Gamecocks in the 2025 national championship game, which was head coach Geno Auriemma’s 12th title. That’s the most all-time, with the late Tennessee coach Pat Summitt second (eight), LSU’s Kim Mulkey third (four), and a tie for fourth between former Stanford coach Tara Vanderveer and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley (three). Mulkey won her first three coaching championships at Baylor.
