GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A tanker truck burned for several hours after crashing on US-131, filling the downtown Grand Rapids sky with black smoke.
The tanker truck crashed on southbound US-131 at I-196 near Exit 86A just after 8 a.m. Saturday, the Grand Rapids Police Department told News 8. No injuries were reported.
As of 1 p.m., the freeway remains shutdown in both directions from Leonard Street NE to Pearl Street as the “fully engulfed” tanker continues to burn. Drivers should expect “lengthy closures” while first responders work to clear the roadway, the GRPD said in a release.
