Homes and businesses reported lights flicking off, traffic signals going dead and some pumps shutting down as utility crews hustled into the hardest-hit neighborhoods. Residents, left refreshing outage maps and group chats, hunted for status updates while PG&E teams worked to isolate the problem and bring the power back.
Where the outage struck
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, PG&E’s outage tracker showed roughly 5,000 customers in Marin County without service, with the largest clusters on the Tiburon Peninsula. The Chronicle snapshot listed about 2,884 customers in Tiburon and 1,122 in Belvedere, along with smaller pockets in unincorporated Marin (918 customers), Mill Valley (97) and San Rafael (4). Those numbers reflect what appeared on the utility’s live map at the moment reporters checked it.
PG&E response and restoration timeline
Per PG&E’s outage center, the company identified the affected circuits but had not yet posted a confirmed cause when the map was reviewed. Local coverage from Patch reported that the outage began shortly after noon, and PG&E’s early estimate put full restoration at around 8:15 PM.
