Family Justice Center employee fatally struck pedestrian, went straight to work, police allege

NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans Family Justice Center employee is facing charges after a fatal hit-and-run crash in New Orleans East, as city leaders continue efforts to reduce deadly traffic incidents.

Police say Shermaine Scipio struck a woman with her vehicle on Chef Menteur Highway and left the scene without stopping to help. The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was taken to a hospital, where she died Thursday morning.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, Scipio drove away after the crash and went to work. Officers later located her vehicle parked on Loyola Avenue near the New Orleans Family Justice Center, where she is employed…
