More Than $75 Million in Charges May Be Refunded in Dealership Settlement

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced a settlement with multiple Lindsay automotive dealerships, including Lindsay Ford of Wheaton, resolving civil charges filed by the state’s Consumer Protection Division in coordination with the Federal Trade Commission.

The case also involves Lindsay Chevrolet in Woodbridge, Virginia; Lindsay Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram in Manassas, Virginia; Lindsay Management Company; and several company executives. The lawsuit alleged that the dealerships misled consumers into paying more than advertised vehicle prices.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, the settlement requires the defendants to issue refunds to consumers who paid more than advertised prices for vehicle purchases or leases, as well as for add-on products or services that were not agreed to or were presented as mandatory. While the total refund amount is still being determined, officials estimate that more than $75 million in consumer charges may be eligible.
