NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – One of New Mexico’s largest health insurers could soon be cutting ties with a major health system. Lovelace said they began conversations with Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico in February to renew their agreement, but without progress, the agreement may expire in June. If that happens, all Lovelace facilities and providers will no longer be in network with the health insurer.

Lovelace said they are navigating rising costs for staffing, supplies, and technology, and they claim Blue Cross Blue Shield reimburses them significantly below what it pays other health systems. Meanwhile, Blue Cross said they are working closely with Lovelace to come to a mutual agreement.
