After studying at Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, touring Europe and performing at sea, Jack McGaughey once again finds himself in his hometown of Eugene, Oregon. His fateful return is characterized by one goal: “I want to be able to leverage my knowledge and connections with the University of Oregon, especially in these trying times, to foster connections in Eugene,” McGaughey said.
McGaughey is a multi-instrumentalist musician currently mastering in music composition at the UO. He exudes a refreshing dedication to local music. Having developed his musical skillset under the tutelage of Scotty Perry, a founding member of longtime local staple The Sugar Beets, McGaughey first encountered Perry at “image that!,” a camp for young children centered around creative expression.
Perry began teaching McGaughey Sugar Beets songs when he was in middle school, and eventually welcomed him into their rehearsals once he reached high school. McGaughey now performs and — thanks to a research scholarship from UO School of Music and Dance — documents the group…
